Hello! I’m James Dew Hall, a creative storyteller born and raised in Richmond, Virginia. I’m an African American filmmaker, editor, and sound designer focused on directing and production sound, with experience in screenwriting, music composition, and multiple crew departments. My work blends experimentation and genre layering to teach and entertain, exploring Afro-Futurism, Surrealism, Absurdism, dreamscapes, documentary forms, and themes of mental health and the human experience for all races, genders, and identities. While my milestone is to become a writer-director, I’m equally committed to collaborating with other filmmakers and clients to help amplify their stories that need to be told. Filmmaker Reel

These are my personal short films as a writer-director, created to develop my craft, style, interests, and eye for visual storytelling. Making these films heightened my sense of style and stories I wanted to tell, and how I wanted to tell them. These films are classic genre pieces with abstract, whimsical, and dream-like characters and approaches that examine themes of human empathy, forgiveness, creativity, and mental health, helping others while entertaining. My performances are here! I am developing my acting muscles; it is a new interest of mine. It is a great craft that helps in aid for films, and my goal as a filmmaker is to help others tell stories as much as I want to tell my own.

Production Company

KID EYE, my production company, specializes in narrative films, music videos, and promotional material. The name stands for seeing the world through a childlike lens with experimentation and playful ways of creating and sharing fun with others. I handle the production of all booked projects. It is currently under development to become a distribution company for productions.
